Which builder has the best reputation?
No builder has the best reputation nationally, because reputation in this trade is local and tied to a type of work. A firm can be superb at loft conversions in South London and out of its depth on a basement. Brand recognition mostly measures marketing spend. Reputation is what the last few dozen clients say, and that only exists at neighbourhood level.
Three signals beat any brand name. First, consistent reviews over several years on the same platform. Anyone can collect five glowing reviews in a launch month; a steady run since 2018, including the odd gripe handled properly, is far harder to fake. Second, referrals with some enthusiasm behind them. Not 'they were fine' but clients who hand your number to their neighbours unprompted. A good share of our work in Crystal Palace and Beckenham arrives exactly that way, sometimes two or three houses on the same street. Third, completed work you can visit. Any established builder should be able to walk you round a finished job or put you on the phone with the owner.
When someone asks me who has the best reputation, I tell them to narrow the question: best reputation for your job, on your kind of house, within a few miles of you. A national name means little when the crew that turns up is a subcontractor nobody vetted. Put the three checks above to any firm, including us, and the answer sorts itself out quickly.
