Who are the top 5 builders in the UK?

The top five builders in the UK by completions are currently Barratt Redrow, Vistry, Persimmon, Taylor Wimpey and Bellway, and those rankings measure units and turnover, not workmanship. A firm that finishes more than ten thousand homes a year tops the table whether or not its buyers are happy with the result. That is all the lists count: completions and revenue.

So ask what question the list actually answers. If you are buying shares, or weighing up a plot on a new development, scale and financial stability matter and the rankings tell you something real. If you want your Victorian terrace in Dulwich renovated or a loft converted in Sydenham, they tell you nothing. The firms on those lists do not take on renovations, extensions or bathrooms for private homeowners. It's a different business entirely.

We sit at the other end of the market. All Well is a small firm working across South East and South West London, and I am on site most days. Nobody ranks firms like ours nationally because the work doesn't scale that way. What replaces the ranking is local evidence: reviews going back years, finished jobs you can go and stand in, neighbours who pass your number along. When someone in Crystal Palace or Beckenham asks who the best builder is, the national top five is the wrong list to be reading. The right question is who has done good work recently, nearby, on a house like yours.
