Home Renovation FAQs
Straight answers to the renovation questions we get asked most, from a builder who runs the jobs.
Renovation covers everything from repainting a room to stripping a Victorian terrace back to brick and rebuilding the inside: rewiring, replumbing, new layouts, new kitchens and bathrooms. The structure stays, the way the house works changes. Most of the jobs we take on across South East and South West London sit somewhere in the middle, an Edwardian semi that needs a full rework, or an ex-rental flat that needs bringing back to a standard someone would want to live in. Scope and budget decide everything, so we settle both before anyone lifts a tool.
This page answers 34 of the questions we hear most, on scope, budgets, planning permission, sequencing and what to tackle first. Every answer comes from projects we have run in Crystal Palace, Dulwich, Sydenham, Bromley and the streets around them, mostly Victorian and Edwardian stock with old wiring, lath and plaster ceilings and the odd surprise under the floorboards. If yours is not covered, call and ask.
If you are already pricing a project, our property renovation service page covers how we work, and our free calculators give instant estimates for most project types.
